a Natural Heritage Site

Ocean View Forest Reserve and Guest Farm is situated 65km from East London and 30km from the sea.

It caters for those who need a quiet place with a relaxed family atmosphere to enjoy nature and get away from the crowds.

It is also a popular stop-over for travellers between Cape Town and Durban.

This registered Natural Heritage Site has an indigenous forest that is the largest remnant of this type of forest between the Amatola Mountains and the sea.

With only three thatched cottages and a small caravan park, visitors are guaranteed peace and tranquility.

Our policy is to provide a cottage and bedding for those who want a quiet weekend or holiday communing with nature.

Children enjoy taking part in the daily farm life of feeding chickens and milking cows.

Horse-riding is offered on nearby farms which are situated +- 8km away.

With over 180 bird species including a pair of breeding Crowned Eagles, it is a favourite haunt of bird-watchers. Ocean View is mentioned in Hugh Chittenden's TOP BIRDING SPOTS and also has a comprehensive bird list drawn up by Carl Vernon.

Wake up to the "mahems" of the Crowned Crane, or listen to the Wood Owl hooting at night.

Sit and watch the birds, let the Trumpeter Hornbills delight you with their antics; or gasp at the crimson wings flashed by the Knysna Loerie.

Go bird-watching, venture into the forest and be impressed by the Crowned Eagle at its eyrie.

Marked hiking trails through veld, forest and grassland provide the visitor with a variety of walks.

Excursions to the Xhosa Village are offered by prior arranagement.
Listen to our choir, enjoy a Xhosa meal, learn a Xhosa dance.

Braai facilities and self-catering accommodation are available but home-cooking of the fresh farm fare is also popular.

Guest cottages in delightful and peaceful surroundings.

Well-behaved pets are always welcome.

The beaches of Kei Mouth, Morgan Bay and Haga-Haga are a short drive away.
Marine fishing, bird and whale/dolphin watching trips (at competitive rates) by arrangement.
